The lives for these particular high-school students have returned to normal, only six months after the city-wide havoc. With the authorities in hot pursuit of the headless rider and the head on the cities government plotting through informants, the normalcy will not last. Will the city be wrought in chaos again?
The storylines and themes of this series are simple enough to understand but the way they are introduced and progressed are not the best. Instead of using the tried-and-true “arc” method, Durarara employs a style focusing on repetitive retellings of what was just revealed, from other character’s perspectives. Because of this approach, it takes forever to progress through the story, because we, for some reason, need to know how every character feels about, or deals with, each situation separately. As I said before, it’s not the ideas themselves, it’s how they are conveyed. The series was not awful, but not noteworthy either. I guess I would like to see the same stories retold in a different way. Perhaps something, anything, would happen in a timely fashion.
The animation in this show is baseline and standard as far as overall visual appearance. However, the one thing that stands out is the character designs. Each character is given a style, which stays constant throughout this series, as well as can be tracked back to previous ones. A nice bit of consistency goes a long way to having the characters have trademark get-ups.
The sound and music is a great part of the show, solely due to the fact that, for the most part, it crosses genres and eras, to not only fit the moods of scenes but also provides listeners with a companion to the characters styles. Also, the listeners are able to attune a well know song to this new show, as well as come into contact with music they may very well like, as a stand-alone, but never have before.
Rating and Overall Enjoyment: 4/10
